Smartphone Thermal ANalysis for Diabetic foot Ulcer Prevention and treatment

STANDUP is the research project #777661 funded by the European Community. It is a 4 years project that started the first of January 2018. The research group is composed of 6 universities all over the world and of 2 European high tech companies. STANDUP aims at reducing diabetic foot ulcers incidence by using a smartphone associated to a thermal camera plugged into the smartphone. In the STANDUP project, six workpackages (WP) will be developed.

Diabetes mellitus (DM), or simply, diabetes, is a group of diseases characterized by high blood glucose levels that result from defects in the body's ability to produce and/or use insulin. Diabetes is a disorder of metabolism, the way the body uses digested food for growth and energy. Most of the food that people eat is broken down into glucose, the form of sugar in the blood.

Our solutions

STANDUP aims to reduce the incidence of diabetic foot ulcers by using a smartphone connected to a thermal camera. Thanks to this device, it is possible to decelerate signs of hyperthermia and to analyse temperature variations. We intend to develop, test in clinical situations, improve and market in the very near future a smartphone-based system to evaluate hyperthermia in DF, to develop a system to contribute to the early diagnosis of DF, to effectively monitor gastrointestinal ulcer during treatment, and to improve the design of the insole and the choice of the custom insole using thermal information.

The partners

The STANDUP project is a health project in which many organizations participate. Each of these organizations had shared their skills in order to make the project progress. If the STANDUP project is there today it is thanks to all its partners who participated in its advances. Here you will find the partners working together on this project. Feel free to visit their websites to learn more about them!
